Dr Anthony Mekako

Anthony was born again as a university student in Nigeria in the early nineteen eighties and was part of the Catholic Charismatic movement in university. He was baptised in the Holy Ghost and spoke with other tongues at a student camp meeting at the end of 1984. While doing a National Youth Service in a village in Nigeria, Anthony started attending the Assemblies of God church in that locality, and felt he had to break family loyalties to the Catholic Church, and become committed to a personal walk with God. It wasn’t until the early 1990s however, that he really got “serious” with God. He served as an usher and youth leader in his local Pentecostal church and was later ordained as a deacon and then, an associate pastor in 1996.

While still in Nigeria, Anthony was introduced to the International Charismatic Bible Ministries, led by Oral Roberts, and he began to follow the ministries and teachings of ministers like Kenneth Copeland, Jerry Savelle, TD Jakes, Joyce Myer and Creflo Dollar, etc. These ministers helped shape Anthony’s passion for studying and living the life of Grace and Faith that comes through knowledge of the Word of God, and the eternal and abundant love that Jesus has for His church. He strives to live this life and teach others to live in the reality of life in the New Covenant.

Anthony and his family moved to Harrogate in early 2009, and joined New Life in Christ Ministries later that year, after listening to a message by Pastor Vernon Roosevelt on the NLIC website. Anthony identified with the gospel teaching, and when they attended the church service, they felt welcomed, loved, and an inner witness to be part of the church. They have been members since then and have grown with the church.

Anthony serves and is a member of the leadership team of the church, and also a part of the preaching/teaching team. Anthony is married to Mercy, who is also a member of the leadership team, and they are blessed with three wonderful children.

In his free time, he enjoys watching sports on television, particularly football and Formula One racing. He also enjoys police and detective dramas and movies.
